BCSO investigates apparent homicide

Crossroads man found in home with gunshot wound to the head

CROSSROADS, Alabama — Baldwin County Sheriff Deputies are investigating the death of a man found in his home in the Crossroads Community of North Baldwin County Friday of an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

According to a release issued Friday by the BCSO Investigations Command, Baldwin County Sheriff Deputies, along with ambulance and rescue unit, responded to a home on County Road 138 at approximately 8:40 p.m. on Friday, in reference to a man found unconscious by his wife.

Joseph Elmer Broughton, 74, was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to the head. According to the release, Broughton’s death is being investigated as a homicide.

Criminal and Crime Scene investigators were summoned and began to speak with family members and process the residence for evidence.

“The investigation is obviously in the early stages and additional information will be released as the case develops,” according to the release.
