BAY MINETTE – Baldwin County High School's Lee Bush signed his name on the dotted line last Thursday when he signed to play baseball for the Faulkner State Sun Chiefs.
Bush started his baseball career at the early age of three, playing tee-ball with Bay Minette's city league baseball. He is a five-year starter for BCHS' baseball team and according to the Tiger's head coach Peter Bezeredi, is on track to break Josh Huggins’ record of the most games played while wearing the Tiger uniform.
"Bush catches about 90 percent of all the games for BCHS, with great framing and blocking. His arm strength and hitting have improved since last year," Coach Bezeredi said before the signing ceremony.
“Lee is in the top five percent of players I have coached with the hard work ethic he has and a good example for the other players,” Bezeredi said.
Bush is a left handed batter and catcher and he credits his career to the two high school coaches that he has played for, Coach Bezeredi and Coach Jerry Wright. Lee was under Coach Wright his last two years as head baseball coach and played for Coach Bez the last three years.
"Coach Wright has made me the player I am today," Bush said. "I also owe a lot to Coach Bez for doing a good job working with me and making me stronger. I am much stronger in my arms which is helping me with throwing and hitting, I am also running faster."
When asked about his decision to head to Faulkner, Lee said,"I have heard a lot of good things about Coach (Wayne) Larker and I know he has a great program."
Lee's parents are Johnny and Cindy Bush from the Pine Grove community.
"My parents have supported me my entire life and came to every one of my games. They said that if I chose a college far away they would still come to all my games," Bush said.
