BAY MINETTE, Ala. -Shortstop Josh Huggins backed right-hander Daniel Robinson’s four-hit pitching with three hits of his own including a two-run home run Friday afternoon, sparking Baldwin County High School to a 9-2 win over West Florida Technical High School of Pensacola on the BCHS campus baseball diamond.
Robinson struck out seven batters and walked just one in improving his team-best pitching record to 5-1. It was the third consecutive win for the Tigers, who improved their overall record to 13-6. BCHS is 6-2 on its home field.
The Tigers journeyed south down Highway 59 Tuesday for an intracounty game against Robertsdale in the Hub City. Baldwin County will host Satsuma at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the Tigers’ first 6A Area 3 game of the season. BCHS and Satsuma will play a 12 noon doubleheader Saturday at the Gators’ home Fred Wright Park, the first game counting in the Area 3 standings.
On Tuesday, BCHS will host Fairhope in another intracounty game at 6 p.m.
Huggins belted his team-leading fourth home run over the left field fence in a four-run third inning.
He also leads the Tigers in hits, batting average, on-base percentage and slugging prcentage, having entered the game with marks of 22, .379, .463 and .690 in those respective categories.
Demetrius Coley had two hits, including a two-run double in a five-run Baldwin County fourth-inning explosion. It was Coley’s fifth double of the season.
Jeremy Boone, who leads the Tigers in runs scored, tallied two of the Baldwin County runs after doubling and getting hit by a pitch. Robinson helped his own cause with an RBI single, and he also scored two runs.
West Florida Tech committed four errors, three of them leading to Baldwin County runs.
