MOBILE — The Bayside Admirals came from over sea and some land and struck on the ground and in the air to come from behind and defeat 3A Mobile Christian School 16-13.
Senior running back Brandon Pilot and senior quarterback Michael Sirmon among other elder Admiral players steered the 2A Eastern Shore team past the Leopards to avenge an ‘06 loss to the Cats.
The Leopards got off to a good home-field start scoring on their first drive at home to go up 7-0 in the first period.
Bayside managed to move the ball but traded punts with MCS the remainder of the quarter.
Bayside then mounted a 60-yard campaign that culminated in Pilot plunging into the Leopards’ end zone on a three-yard touchdown run.
Another senior, T.J. Julian got the call for the point after and took the ball in as the Admirals went for two to take an 8-7 lead.
But MCS charged back off a Bayside turnover and scored before the half, but did not convert the point after for a 13-8 lead at the break.
The third period was scoreless and the Bayside defense kept it that way in the fourth for the MCS team off some key tackles, particularly by another senior, Daniel Calametti, at safety.
Sirmon then connected with still another senior Admiral Emory Jones who made a number of clutch catches on what would be the winning drive.
With about eight minutes to play in regulation Sirmon, Jones and Pilot helped finish another TD push of 55 yards with Pilot crossing the goal line from about six yards out.
Sirmon hit Cade McMurray, what else, a senior receiver for the two-point conversion pass to set up the 16-13 score.
The Bayside defense did the rest.
The Admirals now face a huge game for homecoming this week against Region 1 foe Excel.
