DAPHNE—The Bayside Admirals pulled off back-to-back wins last weekend, including a key 3A Area 1 victory 65-40 over T.R. Miller.
"We came out with a little more energy today," said Bayside coach Ralph Watson. "We played OK, didn't play great. But I like the way we closed out some quarters. It was a one-point game midway into the second quarter and we closed it out with a lead at the half. That kind of opened it up for us.
“These last two weeks is where you would like to start playing well. Basketball is such a long season so you're going to have peaks and valleys."
Dave McKeithen led the Admirals with 14 points, Joby Allen right back with 13 and Geoffrey Stinebaugh added 12. Teraz Lane led the Tigers with a game-high 17 points.
The Admirals improved to 2-3 in 3A Area 3 play with the win and had an area game at home last night with Cottage Hill Christian but results were not in for this edition. BA will host Foley Thursday and Gulf Shores this Friday.
On Saturday, Bayside picked up another win at St. Paul's with a 51-36 road victory over the 5A Saints. McKeithen and Stinebaugh each hit 10 for the Admirals, Allen added seven, Grahm Barnard and Daniel Beebe four each, Thomas Buchanan three and nelson Newman two.
Bayside Academy improved to 13-8 overall.
Bayside’s Lady Admirals came away with two defeats over the weekend, falling 56-26 to Miller and 55-33 to St. Paul's. The young BA crew of mostly sophomore and freshmen players, who have been without injured senior point guard Corte Minto all year, had picked up their first area win last week at CHC.
Madeleine Philpot led the Bayside scorers in both weekend games with 14 and 15 point outings. Versus Miller, Virginia Pittman added eight, Caroline Beebe and Hannah Lee added two each. Against St. Paul's Pittman had nine points with 13 blocked shots, Beebe added four points, Jhalen Caffey and Caroline Gill two and Danielle DiPretoro one.
The Lady Admirals (8-13, 1-4) will host the Lady Lions Thursday and the Lady Dolphins Friday in Daphne.
