DAPHNE, Alabama — Bayside Academy made a another run at the No. 1-Ranked 3A team in the state Friday, but came up eight-points shy, 53-45 at Clarke County in Grove Hill. Perhaps motivated by the loss, the Admirals released the cannons on visiting T.R Miller the next day blasting the Tigers 48-24 to finish the area schedule 6-2 in second place behind the 8-0 CCHS Bulldogs.
The Admirals will match up with third-place Miller in the area tournament in Grove Hill.
Nelson Newman scored 13 points and Grahm Barnard 10 to lead Bayside while Geoffrey Stinebaugh and Neal Christman added six each and Spencer Newman five to improve the team to14-10 overall. Miller’s Darrion Salter scored 10 points.
Bayside will host Cottage Hill at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Spanish Fort Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
In the girls game, the Lady Admirals wrapped up their 3A Area 1 drive Saturday with a 47-29 home-court win over T.R. Miller.
The Bayside girls finished 5-3 in the area and second behind 7-1 Clarke County which will host the Area 1 tournament and will face third-place Miller in the area tournament opening round next week.
Virginia Pittman scored 18 points to lead Bayside as Danielle Dipretoro added 10 and Morgan Dulaney nine to pace the host Lady Admirals (11-10), who welcome Cottage Hill at 6 p.m. Tuesday and wrap up the regular season hosting Spanish Fort Thursday at 5 p.m.
The Lady Admirals shot 10-of-19 freethrows. The Tigers’ Leah Brundidge led all with 25 points and hit all seven of her freethrow attempts.
