BAY MINETTE, Ala. — The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department is continuing to investivate a Friday shooting in Bay Minette which resulted in serious injuries to a father and mother, according to Maj. Anthony Lowery.
Deputies responded to the shooting about 9 p.m. at 46211 Old Carney Road, the residence of Allen and Aleisha Jones and their two children.
The father stated he had removed his .40-caliber handgun from the glove box of his truck and was walking through a screened porch area attached to the main house when he tripped and fell. He reportedly shot himself in his left leg just above the knee. He began yelling for his wife who was inside the home bathing their young son. Their daughter was asleep in her bedroom.
The mother ran into the screened area where she tried to secure the gun but her son got to it first. When she reached to get it from the child a round was fired, striking the mother in the left side of her neck, Lowery stated.
A neighbor heard a shot and the yelling and came to assist the mother. The father called 911, and both were transported to the University of South Alabama Medical Center in Mobile, where they were listed as stable.
