BAY MINETTE, Ala. — The Bay Minette City Council will consider whether to rezone 701 Brady Road during its regular meeting tonight.
According to Bay Minette City Clerk Rita Findley, the property is owned by McPherson Oil and is currently zoned for a multiple-family residence.
“McPherson Oil wants to tear down an old house and put in a parking lot,” she said in a telephone interview.
The property, adjacent to McPherson Oil’s Hoyle Avenue facility, would be restricted to being used for a parking lot, as deemed by an R3 zoning classification.
“If they (McPherson Oil) tried to go back and build oil tankers there, they’d have to go back before the council,” Findley said.
According to the city clerk, the proposed zoning change passed review of the Bay Minette City Planning Commission and will undergo its first reading by the city council tonight.
“Then it’ll have to undergo a second reading and be approved by the council,” Findley said.
The Bay Minette City Council’s regular meeting is at 6 p.m. at city hall. It will be preceded by a 5 p.m. work session, also at city hall, in which alcohol licenses for Dollar General Store at 2676 S. U.S. Highway 31 and City Limits Sports Lounge at 591 U.S. Highway 31 South with be discussed.
