Bay Minette City Pool readies for summer season

BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Bay Minette swimmers and sun bathers can get ready to pull bathing suits and beach towels from drawers, because the city pool will re-open for the summer season at the end of this month.

Beginning Saturday, May 28, the pool that is located at 1300 Bradley Ave., will be open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1-6 p.m. each Sunday, according to the city of Bay Minette’s website.

The pool will remain open until Labor Day, and memberships are available for those who plan to visit regularly, according to Pool Director Janet Caraway.

“The city pool benefits the citizens of Bay Minette by providing an outlet for affordable family fun,” she said in an email. “The cost for summer membership is very reasonably priced, as are the daily fees. With the rising cost of gasoline, the citizens of Bay Minette can enjoy the sun, take a swim in the salt-water facility and make new friends as well as rekindle old friendships.”

Memberships cost $125 for individuals, $150 for senior couples (55 and older), $225 for families and $275 for families plus one (baby sitter), according to www.cityofbayminette.org.

Daily fees cost $5 per person and children 2 years old and younger are free.

“A seasonal membership would provide either an individual, couple or a family, one-household, the opportunity to utilize the pool and its amenities on a daily basis,” Caraway said. “The 90-foot slide provides thrills for kids of all ages while the ‘kiddie pool’ offers parents and children under the age of 11 the chance to splash through the water while dodging the flowing mushroom, the palm tree oasis and the tropical rain curtain. The competition-size pool is great for swimming laps. It also hosts a diving board and a spiraling slide great for the younger ones.”

Caraway said the pool usually has about 250 visitors per day and offers private parties after public hours, providing a life guard and party room.

“There is something for everyone at the Bay Minette City Pool,” she said. “We also offer six tennis courts and a basketball court and are looking forward to the new addition, the handicap-accessible, universal playground. This playground will provide family fun for everyone.”

The city has provided a public pool for five years, and the new facility has been open for the past four years, Carraway added.
