Barbara Jeanette Wilson Clayton, 78, passed away Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014. She was born Aug. 11, 1936.

Barbara was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and dedicated believer of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Her faith and outgoing personality led her to minister to others in any way she could.

One path of service was through nursing. Starting as a licensed practical nurse, she later became a registered nurse and eventually earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing from the University of West Florida.

She was proud to practice nursing more than 30 years. Her penchant for caregiving extended to everyone she met, and she was heard to say on several occasions that “it is an honor.”

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, Ralph Clayton; infant son, David Ralph; and her parents, Albert and Wilma Wilson.

She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Gaw (Jerry); grandson, David Gaw of Tennessee; a sister, Sandra Milburn; and nephews, Johnny Milburn and Danny Milburn (Sherry, Emma, Jon) of Texas.

Hebrews 12:1 tells us that the faithful who have gone before us make up “a great cloud of witnesses” who encourage believers to remain devoted to the Lord. Barbara is now blessed to be in the presence of the Lord — she is healed, she is at peace — and she is serving those she loves by being a witness to the fact of His glory and grace.
