Matthew Dale Hudleston of Pensacola allegedly robbed the Regions Bank in Foley which resulted in a high-speed chase late Friday afternoon according to police reports.

The Foley police department received a call from Regions at 4:50 p.m. stating that the bank had just been robbed according to police reports.

When police arrived at the scene a bank employee identified the suspect as a tall white male weighing about 220 pounds and wearing a grey sweatshirt and dark colored shorts according to police reports.

When the suspect entered the bank he passed the teller a note that claimed he had a gun and demanded that he be given money. After reading the note the teller gave the suspect all the money in the drawer and the suspect left the building according to police reports.

The suspect took off in a black Ford Explorer and the information was given to all local law enforcement agencies who began to pursue the suspect. The Foley Police Department, Summerdale Police Department, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s office and the FBI were all involved in catching the suspect according to the Foley Police Department.

The suspect was first spotted by a Sheriff’s deputy on County Road 65. The suspect refused to stop and was pursued according to police. The pursuit ended when the suspect crashed his vehicle on County Road 32 near Highway 59.

The suspect sustained injuries from the crash and had to be flown to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola where he was treated for his injuries and then released into the custody of the Escambia County Florida Jail. According to police, he will be held in Florida until he can be extradited back to Alabama.

Police officials said Hudleston will be charged with first-degree robbery.

Foley Police Chief David Wilson feels the suspect was taken into custody so easily was due in large part to the cooperation and teamwork of all the law enforcement agencies that were involved.

Wilson said, “ I would like to thank the FBI, Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office and Summerdale Police Department for assistance with this bank robbery.  This is a great example of how law enforcement at local, county and federal levels works well together.  This was truly good teamwork.”
