FAIRHOPE — On Friday, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office arrested 19-year-old Tanya Marie Jarmin for domestic violence in the first degree (assault).

According to officials, the arrest was the result of an investigation that began Sunday, May 27, when Jarmin’s 3-month-old son was taken to Thomas Hospital in Fairhope and it was discovered he had a “spiral” fracture of his right femur. Police records indicate that the infant was then transported to USA Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Mobile.

“While being treated there it was discovered that the child also had a fracture of his left leg and also a skull fracture,” Capt. Stephen K. Arthur said in a news release.

He added that during a subsequent interview with investigators from the Sheriff’s Office, Tanya Jarmin confessed to the assault on her child.

“She confessed to injuring the child’s legs at her residence on County Road 32 in the Marlow community on Sunday(, May 27) but said the skull fracture occurred at a residence in Mobile several weeks prior,” Arthur stated, adding that he admitted to causing that injury also.

The child has been released from the hospital, and he and his 2-year-old sister have been placed with relatives in Mobile County by the Department of Human Resources.
