FAIRHOPE, Alabama - High school football players weren't the only athletes signing letters of intent on National Signing Day on Wednesday in Baldwin County.
Spanish Fort sprinter Lauren Davis and Fairhope athlete Thomas Grace signed with the University of Alabama-Huntsville, while Foley's Josh Nelson signed with Troy University during National Signing Day ceremonies at their high schools.
In an interview on Wednesday, Davis told GCN's Tony Whitehead that her love of running began at an early age.
"I fell in love with running when I was really young and I think I started wanting to compete in college by the seventh or eighth grade," she said. "It’s like a dream come true.”
Track and field teams in the state are allowed to begin practicing on Friday, and their first contests begin March 1. The Gulf Shores Sportsplex will once again host the state track and field meet in May.
