FOLEY, Alabama - Fans eager to see high school football will get their first chance to catch the action Friday night as most of Baldwin County’s teams will play preseason jamboree games in preparation for next week’s season openers.
Perhaps the most intriguing jamboree game on Friday will be played at the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, featuring the Spanish Fort Toros (9-4) and north Alabama power Muscle Shoals (11-2). The teams will square off at 7 p.m. in the first of three Champions Challenge games.
All eyes will be on prized recruits on both teams, with Spanish Fort wide receiver Deon Johnson committed to Alabama and defensive back Johnny Cook committed to Nebraska.
Tickets for the Champions Challenge at the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery are $10 and the game will be broadcast by WSFA TV (Raycom) with a web-stream of all three games live over the AHSAA TV/Internet Network. The AHSAA State Radio Network will broadcast all three games live over its network of affiliates, which includes WNSP-105.5 FM in Mobile according to the AHSAA site.
On Saturday in the Champions Challenge Central-Clay County will face Beauregard at 5 p.m. and McGill-Toolen will face the Northridge Jaguars at 7:30 p.m.
In Foley, the 6A Lions will host the 5A Gulf Shores Dolphins on Friday at 7 p.m. at Ivan Jones Stadium. Foley High School will induct a new Hall of Fame class at 6:35 p.m. before the game begins. WHEP-1310 AM in Foley will broadcast the Hall Of Fame induction ceremony at 6:30 and the game at 7 p.m. on WHEP AM 1310/FM 92.5. The ceremony and game can also heard on Riviera Cable Channel 7 and streamed at whep1310.com.
Also on Friday, the Daphne Trojans will host fellow 2010 state champion Thomasville Tigers at 7 p.m. at Jubilee Stadium and the Fairhope Pirates will host the Davidson Warriors in new head coach Adam Winegarden’s debut at W.C. Majors Field. In Robertsdale, the Golden Bears will be led onto the field by new head coach Brian Campbell as they host Satsuma at 7 p.m. at J.D. Sellars Stadium.
The Baldwin County High School Tigers will travel to Gulf Breeze, Fla. on Friday to face the host Dolphins at Dolphin Stadium. The Tigers enter head coach Bobby Moore’s second season and should be improved from last year’s 1-9 season.
