Baldwin Pops Band to host free 'Yuletide Celebration' concerts across Baldwin County

Posted

The Baldwin Pops Band, led by conductor Wayne Fillingim, will bring a festive "Yuletide Celebration" to three locations in Baldwin County in early Dec.

The series opens at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, at the Foley Civic Center. To give families across the county a chance to attend, the band will also perform at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, at the Erie H. Myers Civic Center in Gulf Shores and at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at the Daphne Civic Center. Santa is expected to make a brief appearance at each concert.

The band's holiday program includes a mix of traditional and modern favorites. Highlights include "A Christmas Festival," described by JW Pepper sheet music as "the famous work by Leroy Anderson against which all other Christmas medleys are judged," and "Sleigh Ride," also by Anderson. Other selections will feature "Yuletide Celebration," "Angels from the Realms of Glory," "Concert Suite from The Polar Express," "Greensleeves," "Overture to a Winter Festival," and "A Family Christmas Spectacular." Audience members are invited to join in the "Christmas Sing-a-long."

All concerts are free and no tickets are required. Attendees are encouraged to bring a new unwrapped toy to support the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves Toys for Tots program.

Each performance is sponsored by its host city. For more information, visit www.baldwinpops.com, email baldwinpopsband@gmail.com or call (251) 987-5757.
