Baldwin leaders give thanks

ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — Baldwin County Sheriff Huey Hoss Mack focused on gratitude during his keynote address Tuesday at the 12th Annual Baldwin County Day of Thanks breakfast, hosted by Baldwin County United, at the Baldwin County Commission’s Central Annex in Robertsdale.

“If you want to learn about an author, look in the front of the book and take time to read the acknowledgements. Pay attention to who that person chose to thank,” he said. “I think everyone should have an acknowledgements section in their book of life.”

With that, Mack went around the room, thanking several people, including the county commissioners, Robertsdale Mayor Charles Murphy, Baldwin County Schools Superintendent Eddie Tyler, Fairhope Chief of Police Joe Petties, Baldwin County School System Director of Safety and Security Anthony Sampson and Baldwin County EMC CEO Karen Moore, to name a few.

He also thanked a former Sunday School teacher, treasurer of the Robertsdale United Methodist Church; and ended by thanking his mother-in-law, “because she gave me my best friend.”

“One thing I hope you all take away from this room is to take time today and over the coming week to thank the people in your life,” Mack said. “Someone once told me that one thing we are losing in this country, something that takes very little time but means so much, is the ability to make hand-written thank you notes. I have several around my home and every now and then I will find them. It’s just something that makes me feel good and I promise you I will never delete them.”
