Baldwin judge launches substance abuse program for juveniles

BAY MINETTE, Ala. — The Juvenile Court of Baldwin County has established a first-time offender substance abuse diversion program for juveniles and their families.

Chemical Abuse Prevention Program (CAPP) is a multi-session educational program designed for youth and their parents to raise awareness regarding the use of alcohol and other drugs by young people and the possible consequences.

The juvenile court will pilot the program utilizing resources of the Drug Education Council for the provision of facilitators and educational materials and the Baldwin County Board of Education for the provision of space for the sessions.

Once the pilot program has concluded, the CAPP sessions may be expanded to include referrals from the juvenile court and the Baldwin County School System to provide the maximum amount of assistance for families in need of the educational tool.

For more information about CAPP in Baldwin County, contact the Juvenile Probation Office at (251) 937-0206.
