BAY MINETTE — Baldwin County High School's Ty Mims signed on National Signing Day Wednesday, Dec. 15 to play football for the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.
From his quarterback position, Mims led the Tigers to an 8-4 record this season and to the second round of the AHSAA playoffs. Along the way, he accounted for more than 3,000 total yards and 33 touchdowns for the season.
He earned several accolades during the season including High School Player of the Year, All-County and multiple Player of the Week honors. He was also selected to play in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game.
"We are so proud of Ty in signing with Southern Miss and are excited to see him play on Saturdays at The Rock," Coach Scott Rials said. "Special thanks to Southern Miss Coach Desmond Lindsey for helping Ty during the recruiting process. So proud to be a Golden Eagle."
Under Mims' leadership, the Tigers earned a school record of seven road game wins and set the school record for points scored in a season.
