Baldwin County's Brandon Goins signs with Jeff Davis

BAY MINETTE, Alabama - Friends, family, faculty, and teammates gathered in the Baldwin County High School library to honor senior Brandon Goins, who signed to play baseball at Jeff Davis Community College in Brewton on Thursday.

Joining friends and family at the ceremony were Goins’ teammates, coaches and also Jeff Davis assistant coach Adam Reed. All of them there to not only celebrate Goins next phase of his baseball career, but education as well.

“I am just happy and excited. I am ready to get back on the baseball field,” Goins said. “Hopefully all of this helps everybody, and lets them set their goals. The younger guys coming through and the ones that set their goals and continue on.”

In his first three seasons at BCHS, Goins has played all over the field but mainly at pitcher and catcher. Goins also played in the outfield as well making him a key member for head coach Peter Bezeredi's Tiger team.

“All of this is always exciting, as a coach to see a player move on to the next level whenever they are done here,” Coach Bezeredi said. “It takes a lot of talent, effort, and hard work in order to play at the next level. Hopefully, some of the younger guys can see this as a goal and work to get there.”

Although Goins signed his letter of intent Thursday afternoon he knows the work is not over if he wants to be successful this year and in the years to come.

“I need to continue working hard, get in the weight room, and try to hit a little growth spurt,” Goins said.

While on a visit at Jeff State, the impression of not only the team, but the school as a whole led to Goins making the decision to attend.

“It felt like home and I loved the coaches,” Goins said. “The team was very welcoming when I went to practice with them. It was just a great experience.”

One of those coaches that made an impact in Goins signing was Reed.

“It’s a great day for us because we know we are getting a good player who comes from a great program,” Reed said. “He has a proven track record of being successful and I know he is going to be a great addition to our team because he is going to know how to play the game the right way at the next level. It’s great to get a kid with great character and can help us become a better program both on the field and off.”
