BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Baldwin County High head baseball coach Peter Bezeredi was named Alabama coach of the year in the 6A classification.

Bezeredi led the Tigers to a state runner-up finish in 2011 in their first berth in the 6A championship round.

“It is a tremendous honor to be named 6A State Coach of the Year,” Bezeredi said. “It speaks volumes to the level of recognition our baseball program has recieved. I would not be coach of the year if not for all the hard work put in by Coach Daugherty and the having some talented players that have bought into our way of doing things.

“The run in 2011 was amazing and we were playing our best defense and getting great pitching in combination with just enough offense to get by. It really is about getting hot at the right time of year and having a team that plays for one another and not full of individuals.”

He said the future has potential in spite of losing some key players to graduation like Jansen Boeschen, Joe Devan, Kheyton Byrd, Chris Andreoli and Kristain Johnson.

“Their ability and leadership is going to be really tough to replace. I think we will be competitive next year. but, each year is different and each group is different. This group next year is going to be talented but, the thing to watch is how well are they going to get along and gel as a unit. Hopefully, we can continue to get into the playoffs and make some noise if we get in but it is going to be challenge every year in this part of the state.”

In 5A, Zac Fowler and Rocky McCord of Spanish Fort made all-state as the Toros repeated as 5A state champions this year.

Both seniors, McCord signed with Auburn University and Fowler with Jones County Community College in Ellisville, Miss.

Fowler hit .444 with 12 homers and 52 RBIs and was named the 5A state championship MVP. McCord hit .408 with 24 doubles, 8 homers and 50 RBIs while also pitching to a 10-1 record with an ERA of 1.84.
