Baldwin County teacher honored in Walt Disney World parade

Posted

Baldwin County teacher Susan Ramsey of Silverhill joined 14 educators from across the country last Friday in a Walt Disney World Resort parade recognizing National Teacher Appreciation Week as part of Disney Imagination Campus and ABC’s “Abbott Elementary” Teachers Celebration.

Ramsey, a third-grade teacher at Silverhill Elementary, served as an honorary grand marshal alongside fellow educators in the Magic Kingdom Park parade down Main Street, U.S.A., leading Disney characters and themed floats.

Known for using songs set to familiar tunes to reinforce lessons, Ramsey teaches students from diverse backgrounds, including many English language learners, and designs interactive lessons and virtual experiences to boost engagement.

The 15 educators were selected from thousands of entries in the 2026 Disney Teachers Sweepstakes. The weekend included theme park access, leadership sessions with Disney staff, a private fireworks viewing and an evening reception sponsored by General Motors.

General Motors, in partnership with DonorsChoose, is also providing $150,000 in grants for STEAM classroom projects to help teachers expand learning opportunities in their communities.

Participants received behind-the-scenes access to Disney Imagination Campus workshops focused on performing arts, science and technology, humanities and leadership and innovation.

The prize package included a four-day, three-night Walt Disney World Resort stay designed to highlight creative teaching practices and bring new classroom ideas back to schools nationwide.
