SPANISH FORT — A 30-year-old band teacher has been placed on administrative leave after being arrested Oct. 16 on charges of child pornography. According to the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office, Bryant Ramey is a music teacher in Baldwin County Public Schools and worked at Pine Grove Elementary School, Perdido Elementary School and Stapleton Elementary School.

According to the sheriff's office, investigators within the sheriff's office executed a search warrant at Ramey's home in Spanish Fort on Oct. 16.

"This search warrant was the result of an inquiry that led investigators to believe that Ramey was in possession of child pornography. A search of the residence and Ramey’s personal electronic devices resulted in the discovery of illegal images," a news release from the sheriff's office said. "At the conclusion of this operation, Bryant Ramey was charged with four counts of possession of obscene matter containing visual depiction of persons under 17 years of age involved in obscene acts."

According to the release, there is currently no evidence that illegal activity took place on school property, but the sheriff's office will continue to investigate and collaborate with the Baldwin County Board of Education.

According to Superintendent Eddie Tyler, Ramey was placed on administrative leave on Oct. 16.

"Mr. Ramey has been placed on administrative leave as of this morning. We are working closely with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office and will continue to do so as their investigation progresses," Tyler said. "Due to this being a personnel matter, we cannot comment any further at this time."

Ramey's arrest was the result of a collaborative effort between the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency ICAC Task Force and the Department of Homeland Security Mobile Field Office.
