FAIRHOPE, Ala. - Fairhope singer-songwriter Kathryn Scheldt will appear in concert Saturday, Oct. 30, at the Performance Center on the University of South Alabama’s Fairhope campus. Scheldt will be performing songs from her latest CD, “Southern Wind,” released this month by Lamon Records of Nashville.
Joining Kathryn onstage will be Fairhope’s Tom Morley and Katy English and Mobile’s Keith Glass. Frye Gaillard, writer-in-residence at USA and co-producer of Scheldt’s CD, will host the event.
Scheldt says the songs on “Southern Wind,” her second collaboration with Gaillard and Nashville producer-guitarist Mike Severs, are about “the hope on the other side of longing and loss.” After hearing the album, Grand Ole Opry legend George Hamilton IV called Kathryn “a wonderful songwriter who is also blessed with a beautiful voice. Southern Wind may be her best CD yet.”
The current issue of Country Music Capital News, the leading country music publication in Australia, calls “Southern Wind” a “quality album with some fine musicians led by multi-instrumentalist Mike Severs and keyboardist supreme Catherine Marx.”
Scheldt’s October tour celebrating the CD’s release has already taken her to the Rutledge and the Bluebird Cafe, two of the finest listening rooms in Nashville, where she shared the stage with Hall of Fame songwriter Matraca Berg (“Strawberry Wine”) and Americana stars Peter Cooper, Marshall Chapman, and former Grammy nominee Dave Moody. She also opened for folk singer Amy Speace at Moonlight on the Mountain in Birmingham.
“It’s been great,” says Kathryn, “and I’m really looking forward to playing these songs in my own hometown.”
Her all-acoustic appearance at USABC in Fairhope will begin at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free and CDs will be on sale. The concert is being sponsored by USA Baldwin County and co-sponsored by StoryCollector.org, an oral history project of Gulf Coast Storytelling, a non-profit organization.
