Pre-K Registration for Baldwin County Public Schools 2022-2023 school year begins on Tuesday, Jan. 18 and will go until Friday, Feb. 18. To qualify, your child must be 4-years of age on or by Sept. 1, 2022. Children who are eligible for kindergarten are ineligible to register. Acceptance to the program is through a random selection process and/or screening. The random selection will take place virtually on March 22.
For parents considering sending their future student to pre-K, academics aren’t the only benefit they’ll receive, according to Alison Ray, Pre-K consulting teacher with BCPS.
“Pre-K creates a community of learners while supporting social and emotional development,” she said. “Pre-K classrooms are developmentally appropriate and build a safe environment for 4-year-olds. A major goal is to build relationships with children, families and the community. Teachers build a strong school family while guiding and supporting development in the areas of language, social, emotional, physical and cognitive. Curriculum guides teachers so they can plan experiences that promote children's growth throughout the school year.”
All BCPS pre-K programs are free, with the exception of Fairhope High, which is a tuition-based program. There are 34 pre-K classrooms within BCPS, and all classrooms have two adults with a maximum of 18 students, meaning space is limited.
Parents looking to get their child enrolled must first set up an appointment with their child’s future school. Bring two proofs of residency and your child’s birth certificate with you when you go to the appointment. The essential documents set forth by the program will either be filled out at the school during the appointment or online at a later time. The entire application process takes approximately 15 - 20 minutes.
Following the random selection on March 22, letters will be sent to confirm if your child was accepted. Those who were not selected will go onto a waiting list.
