The Baldwin County Commission approved a construction contract to improve the park at the Lillian Recreation Center on U.S. Highway 98 in Lillian, setting the stage for expanded access and upgraded amenities for nearby residents according to a news release.
In the release, District 4 Commissioner Charles “Skip” Gruber said, “We are excited to provide surrounding residents with a community park they can be proud of for generations to come.”
The commission awarded the work to Gibson Construction Services, LLC. Plans call for construction of ADA-compliant men’s and women’s restroom facilities along with a timber picnic pavilion designed to support outdoor gatherings. The project also includes ADA-accessible parking and a connected network of new sidewalks to improve mobility throughout the site.
County officials said in the release that the effort is intended to enhance accessibility while creating spaces that better serve community needs at the popular recreation center.
Construction is scheduled to start in the spring and is expected to be finished by late summer.
