Baldwin County mother-daughter team try to survive on July 8 premiere of NBC's “Get Out Alive”

FAIRHOPE, Alabama— On Monday night, Donna Jackson and daughter Canden Jackson will represent the Eastern Shore on NBC’s new reality-survival show, “Get Out Alive.”

Donna, a former realtor and pageant coach, resides in Fairhope, but Canden, a graduate of Bayside Academy in Daphne and former Miss Alabama Teen USA 2007, has moved to Los Angeles, where she works in the TV and film industry.

Donna submitted their names for casting in the new show without telling Canden of her plan.

“Canden was like, ‘No way Mom. I’m not doing a reality show,’” Donna said. “She eventually came around. Canden is the cautious one. She’s learned how to take a few risks now.”

The survival show, with survivalist host Bear Grylls of ‘Man vs Wild,’ will set 10 teams of two loose in the wilderness of New Zealand, which must work together to survive over the course of the show.

“Canden went in with me, and obviously I was the weak link,” Donna said. “I was like 'Canden I’m so sorry,'” said Donna.

“Get Out Alive” premieres Monday at 8 p.m. on NBC, channel 15 locally.

A private premiere party will be hosted Monday night by Private Gallery, US Foods and The Venue in downtown Fairhope Monday night.

Saraland also sends team

Another south Alabama team is competing on the show as well: Ryan Gwin and his financée Madeline Mitchell, who was Miss Alabama 2010. Gwin and Mitchell live in Saraland.
