Baldwin County master plan presentation postponed until November

Commissioners decide to wait for new members after midterms

BAY MINETTE — The presentation of Baldwin County's proposed Draft Master Plan 2026 to the Baldwin County Commission has been postponed until November, following the Baldwin County Planning and Zoning Commission's inability to reach a conclusion on the plan during its Aug. 6 meeting.

The Draft Master Plan 2026 is intended to provide a long-term framework for Baldwin County's growth and development, addressing issues including land use, infrastructure, transportation, environmental stewardship and quality-of-life improvements throughout the county. It had been scheduled to be presented to the Baldwin County Commission on Sept. 1. However, the commission's consideration of the plan will now be delayed until the second week of November, after the midterm elections and any newly elected commissioners are sworn in, Commissioner Jeb E. Ball of District 1 said.

The delay follows an Aug. 6 public hearing during which residents, farmers, environmental advocates and community leaders raised concerns and offered feedback on the proposed plan. The Planning and Zoning Commission ultimately did not reach a conclusion on the document, allowing additional time for review and public and municipal input.

During the Aug. 6 meeting, Planning and Zoning Commission Chairman Steven Pumphrey emphasized that the document is intended as a guide for future growth rather than a zoning ordinance or regulatory document.

Pumphrey said the planning and zoning commission's role is to review the document and conduct the public hearing before making a recommendation to the Baldwin County Commission.
