A historic Daphne church with roots reaching back more than 150 years will provide the setting for the Baldwin County Historical Society’s quarterly fall meeting Oct. 18.
The society will gather at 1 p.m. Sunday at Little Bethel Baptist Church, 1902 Main St., where active members of the congregation will present a program on the church and its history.
The meeting time is one hour earlier than the society’s usual schedule to accommodate the church’s schedule. Registration will take place upon arrival before the meeting.
Little Bethel Baptist Church traces its history to at least 1867, when Major Lewis Starke donated land to four of his former slaves and their heirs. The church’s current wooden structure dates to 1920, and the congregation celebrated the 150th anniversary of its founding in April 2017.
The church’s history is also reflected in the Little Bethel Baptist Church cemetery, which is located behind the building.
The meeting will offer members and visitors an opportunity to learn about the historic church from members of the congregation while gathering at one of Daphne’s longstanding places of worship.
Parking is available at the church or at nearby Lott Park.
All Baldwin County Historical Society meetings are open to the public and free to attend.
The society also reminds members that annual membership dues of $10 per person are renewable in October.
