FOLEY, Ala. - Habitat for Humanity
of Baldwin County has been selected by Habitat for Humanity
International to receive a portion of a $5 million grant from the
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Habitat for Humanity International is distributing the grant
nationwide to 30 affiliates to support affordable housing and
community development. The funding will
be awarded under HUD’s Section 4 Capacity Building for Community
Development and Affordable Housing Program.

“The funding from HUD will be used to
create a new neighborhood revitalization program assisting low
income homeowners in Baldwin County with critical home repairs.
This funding gives our affiliate the opportunity to branch out and
increase the number of families in our community we can assist,”
explained Alex Cary, Construction Manager of Habitat for Humanity
of Baldwin County.

Habitat affiliates selected to receive a portion of the grant
willhelp rebuild and revitalize neighborhoods and improve the lives
of residents by creating affordable housing opportunities through
community development. Each affiliate is expected to increase their
house production by at least 15 percent over three years and to
match their grant funds by a ratio of four-to-one. The selected
affiliates will also have access to continuing education to enhance
their technical and administrative capabilities.

Habitat for Humanity of Baldwin County partners with low income
families to assist them in achieving their dream of
homeownership. Through sweat equity hours and a zero interest
mortgage, local families are able to provide their families with a
safe, secure and economically feasible place to live. All funding
allows Habitat to fulfill its’ mission of eliminating poverty
housing and homelessness in Baldwin County.
