Daphne dreams dashed in Dothan

DOTHAN, Ala.—Bradley Nero finished with a game-high 19 points for Daphne  but  the Blount Leopards’ combined double-digit effort also finished the Trojans' season 58-49 in Class 6A South Regional semifinal play Tuesday at the Dothan Civic Center.

Divine Myles (16 points), Antonio Chapman (12), Cameron Diggs (12) and Reginald Harbin(10) led the Leopards with double-figure totals. Daphne’s Devonte Young added 12 and C.J. Yelding nine for the Trojans who posted a 20-11 year with area and sub-region titles.

A strong second-half team all year, the Trojans rallied from a 36-24 deficit to tie the score 41-41 with 6:46 left in the game. But DHS could not sustain the momentum and the Leopards broke away on an 11-5 run for the win.

Blount responded with layups by Antonio Chapman and Demetrius Caldwell and a pair of free throws by Myles and suddenly led 47-41 with 4:30 left. Daphne cut the lead to three once more (47-44) on Yelding's three-point play with 4:16 left, but Blount closed with a 11-5 spurt to grab the win.

Blount (25-3) advances to the South Regional final Friday at 10:40 a.m. . The Leopards will play the second-ranked Theodore Bobcats who held off Dothan 60-54.
