The first week of regular-season football across the Alabama High School Athletic Association is in the books along with some standout performances and exhilarating comebacks.
The Foley Lions and Daphne Trojans joined Fairhope, Gulf Shores and Bayside Academy in grabbing a win in their first try of the season. Baldwin County fell in a close battle with Davidson, Orange Beach’s last-second Hail Mary was barred by a flag and Snook Christian lost to Rocky Bayou Christian.

Foley 45, Prattville 19
Senior receiver and Auburn commit Perry Thompson opened the scoring for the host Lions with a 33-yard passing touchdown to Cooper Hermecz before Kolton Nero took over en route to a 290-yard, 3-touchdown performance. Nero was up for the first-ever Seacrest Furniture Athlete of the Week contest.
Senior defensive back Greg McGowan helped lead the Foley defense with 12 total tackles and an interception to secure a sixth straight regular-season victory for his team. This week, the Lions will return to Smith-Pigott Field at Ivan Jones Stadium for a non-region contest against the Baldwin County Tigers.
Daphne 19, Murphy 0
Senior running back Nick Clark paced the Daphne offense to the tune of 21 carries for 114 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
All of the Trojans’ points came in the second half but the Daphne defensive front, which head coach Kenny King said could work to be among the state’s best, set the tone in the trenches and locked down the program’s 47th shutout of all-time and first since Sept. 2, 2022, against Alma-Bryant (25-0). This week, the Trojans are set for their home opener against the Carver Montgomery Wolverines on Friday.
Davidson 49, Baldwin County 45
The Baldwin County Tigers and Davidson Warriors met in a hybrid game on Friday where the first-team units played the first half and the second-team units played the second half. In the first two quarters, Davidson edged Baldwin County 35-33 before the Warriors posted a 14-12 advantage in the latter two quarters.
Hayden Coley collected a pair of passing touchdowns, one each to Damorien Andrews and Jamarion Marshall. Sandwiched in between, Ti Mims broke off a long touchdown run around 60 yards as part of a 166-yard, two-touchdown night for the Tigers.
Baldwin County is set for a road trip to Foley on Friday for a non-region contest between the Tigers and Lions in what will be a rematch of a muddy, 14-0 game from last year.
