Baldwin County football roundup: Elberta cracks win column

Snook Christian’s Dunn sets school records for passing yards, touchdowns in a game

Posted

Week 4 of the high school football season saw the Elberta Warriors grab their first win of the season, Robert Dunn from Snook Christian Academy set single-game passing school records and three teams remain undefeated in Fairhope, Orange Beach and Bayside Academy.

After some schedule shuffling to avoid potential rain Friday, there were big games played both Thursday and Friday. Still, the Pirates’ contest against the MGM Vikings in Semmes that was moved to Thursday was forced into a weather delay although that didn’t faze the visitors.

Elberta 20, LeFlore 14

The Warriors collected their first win of the season to move to 1-2 within Class 5A Region 1. Elberta used 13 unanswered points in the second half to secure the victory.

The Warriors move on to two weeks away from region play with a non-region game at Northview (FL) this Friday and an open week next week before they host UMS-Wright Prep Sept. 30.

Clarke Prep 74, Snook Christian 30

Despite the loss, Snook senior quarterback Robert Dunn registered 328 passing yards and four passing touchdowns to set new single-game school records. Dunn threw one touchdown in the second quarter, two in the third quarter and one in the fourth quarter where the Eagles made all but one two-point conversions.

All of last season, Dunn threw for 384 yards but was hampered by a shoulder injury that also forced him to miss a few games. Next week, Snook will travel to face Hooper Academy in a non-region contest.

Three county teams remain unbeaten

Only three of Baldwin County’s football teams still have yet to lose a game four weeks into the season.

The Fairhope Pirates beat MGM 38-23 through weather delays Thursday in its region opener and the Bayside Academy Admirals (35-0 over Wilcox Central) and Orange Beach Makos (37-12 over Satsuma) both moved to 2-0 in Class 4A Region 1. Overall, Fairhope and Bayside Academy improved to 4-0 and Orange Beach moved to 3-0.

This upcoming Friday, the Pirates will be on the road to face Davidson, the Admirals host Jackson and the Makos host T.R. Miller.
