FAIRHOPE, Alabama - The Baldwin County Commission in coordination with the Baldwin County Emergency Management Agency has declared a local state of emergency effective at 12 p.m. on Monday, August 27, according to a 9:56 p.m. Sunday news release from the EMA.
“The declaration of a local state of emergency allows the county to declare an area as an emergency/disaster area for the purpose of exercising necessary emergency powers and expenditure of available resources, requesting aid, assistance and relief programs and funds available from the State in order to act in the best interest of the safety of the citizens within the area,” the release stated.

***SHELTER OPENINGS:
On behalf of the Baldwin County Commission, the Baldwin County EMA will be opening the following shelters in response to evacuations related to Tropical Storm Isaac in Baldwin County:
Opening at 4:00 p.m.
Monday, August 27
***Baldwin County Coliseum 19477 Fairground Road Robertsdale, Alabama 36567
The Baldwin County Coliseum is a Mass Care and AL Department of Public Health Medical Needs Shelter. This shelter can co-locate the general public and individuals who have physical or mental conditions requiring limited medical/nursing oversight as well as individuals who require electricity to sustain life support functions. Individuals with medical needs should bring one caretaker with them.
***Daphne East Elementary 26651 County Road 13 Daphne, Alabama 26526
The Daphne East Elementary Shelter is a Mass Care General Population Shelter. NO individuals with medical needs will be sheltered here.
If individuals need transportation to a Baldwin County Shelters contact Baldwin Rural Area Transportation System at (251) 990-4636, (251) 972-6817 or (251)937-0355 beginning at 6:30 a.m., Monday, August 27.
***WHAT TO BRING TO A SHELTER:
Any resident evacuating to these facilities will need to bring their own supplies such as:
Personal Identification
Sleeping Bags
Pillow
Snacks
Drinks
Medications
Quiet Activities for Children
Change of Clothing
Infant Products
Sanitary Products
Personal Items
Service animals only will be allowed into the facilities, no family pets.
***GARBAGE COLLECTION
Baldwin County Solid Waste will collect garbage on its regular schedule on Monday, August 27, 2012.
