Baldwin County EMA completes hurricane preparedness exercise ahead of 2026 season

Posted

The Baldwin County Emergency Management Agency successfully completed the 2026 Baldwin County Commission Hurricane Exercise, a full-day preparedness event aimed at strengthening coordination and readiness before the Atlantic hurricane season.

The discussion-based tabletop exercise was held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Baldwin County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in Robertsdale. It brought together all county departments and select stakeholders that would be activated in the EOC during a major storm response.

The exercise focused on improving collaboration, communication flow, documentation and strategic preparedness across agencies.

“This exercise is a critical part of ensuring we are prepared before a storm ever forms. By walking through these scenarios together, we’re able to improve coordination, identify gaps, and build the unified response our residents depend on during severe weather.”

Officials said the exercise was designed to help agencies evaluate response procedures and strengthen countywide disaster operations before a storm threatens the area.

Key areas of focus included EOC activation procedures and operational coordination, interagency communication and information-sharing, resource management and deployment strategies, public information planning and community outreach coordination, and partner integration for countywide disaster response.

With hurricane season underway, Baldwin County EMA is encouraging residents to prepare their households before severe weather develops. Officials recommend building an emergency kit, reviewing family emergency plans and becoming familiar with evacuation routes.

According to the agency, early planning can help reduce risk and support safer outcomes throughout the community.
