BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Two grants totaling $19,250 were awarded this week to the Baldwin County District Attorney ‘s Office to support prosecution efforts, District Attorney Hallie Dixon announced.
“The largest grant of $15,750 is from the U.S. Department of Justice Project Safe Neighborhoods program,” Dixon said. “It will be used to support prosecution of juvenile crimes involving gangs, guns or violent crime.
“We also received a grant of $3,500 from the Alabama Office of Prosecution Services,” she said. “That funding will support prosecution of sex offenders who prey on children.”
Earlier this month, the office was awarded $14,197 in a Department of Justice grant for a technology upgrade.
Dixon said the awards are the result of intensified efforts to secure state and federal grants to help make up for funding cuts that the office has experienced over the past year.
“We are applying for any and all grants that support our core missions of prosecution and victim service,” Dixon said. “We are being very aggressive in that regard because we can’t afford to let funding cuts impede our efforts to serve the public.”
