Baldwin County Council on Aging introduces Vial of Life Program to aid first responders during emergencies

Posted

In an effort to enhance emergency medical response and ensure the safety of local residents, the Baldwin County Council on Aging has launched the Vial of Life Program.

Residents in Baldwin County can take advantage of a free service that offers a solution for sharing medical information.

The program involves placing a red Vial of Life decal on the front door of a residence, ensuring its visibility to first responders. Additionally, a second decal is placed in a Ziploc bag that contains complete medical information, which is then positioned on the refrigerator door for access and viewing.

This allows first responders to have easy access to the individual's name, current medications, existing illnesses, emergency contact information, normal blood pressure and any hearing or visual devices being used.Council on Aging Director Kelly Childress said the program was initially launched a couple of years ago but eventually faded away.

"There was a need to bring it back to light and make it more prominent," Childress said.

She said the program's revival was initiated by a policer officer who reached out to request the council's collaboration in reinstating it. Childress said she agreed to support this program and is excited to bring it back.

The Council on Aging is available to assist residents in filling out the necessary medical forms. Participants will receive the two Vial of Life decals and a Ziploc bag to store their medical information.
