Baldwin County completes first phase of County Road 32 resurfacing project

Posted

Baldwin County has completed the first phase of widening, resurfacing and drainage improvements along County Road 32, county officials said in a news release.

The completed phase extends from State Route 161, also known as the Baldwin Beach Express, east to County Road 87. The work is part of the Baldwin County Commission’s annual resurfacing program, which focuses on maintaining roadways throughout the county.

According to the release, crews inspected and replaced drainage culverts in select areas to help protect the roadway from future damage. Road shoulders were widened to improve safety, and the corridor received a new asphalt surface.

The project also included new reflective traffic striping and reflective pavement markers to improve nighttime visibility. Once the pavement had cured, the roadway was restriped to ensure clear lane markings for motorists, the release said.

The first phase was partially funded through Alabama’s state gas tax, which supports transportation improvements across Baldwin County.

A second phase of resurfacing along County Road 32, extending from State Route 59 to State Route 161, is currently underway and is expected to be completed later this year.

County officials said the two phases are intended to improve continuity, safety and reliability along the east-west route.

"The Baldwin County Commission remains committed to ongoing roadway maintenance and to ensuring that residents, visitors, and businesses have access to safe, well–maintained transportation infrastructure," officials said in the release.
