BAY MINETTE Alabama — The Baldwin County Commission agreedlast week to purchase Live Oak Landing in north Baldwin County for $3.1 million and pursue state and federal grants to facilitate and enhance the 144-acre purchase.

The facility is considered a prime fishing site by anglers but has been closed for years due to liability concerns. It is located on State Road 225 adjacent to Bicentennial Park and will be incorporated in long-term plans to enhance the park’s attractions. A benefit bass tournament is slated April 21, and county officials have said pro fishing tournament organizers have made initial contacts for future, large scale tournaments.

The April 21 tournament will benefit Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital in Pensacola, Fla. But the tournament also will give fishers a ticket to return to one of the most popular launching sites in Baldwin County. For more information about the tournament, call 850-968-4400.
