Baldwin County beats Saraland at 'The Hank'

MOBILE, Alabama — The Baldwin County Tigers and pitcher J.A. Harville two-hit the Saraland Spartans in a BayBears High School Classic win at Hank Aaron Stadium on Friday.

Harville had eight strikeouts and no walks in a complete game as the Tigers (3-1) beat the Spartans 4-2. He carried a no-hitter through six innings until giving up two hits in the bottom of the seventh.

"I'm really proud of J.A., he had a great outing," Baldwin County head coach Peter Bezeredi said. "I really wish we could have played better defense in the infield and kept his pitch count down and maybe he could have gotten a no-hitter. He got guys out but we made five errors in the infield. He pitched an outstanding game and we got some timely hitting and that's what baseball is all about."

The Tigers scored two runs in the top of the first. Harville led off with a walk, then Jordan Ebert sent him home with an RBI triple. Ebert scored from third two batters later. BCHS added a run in the fourth when Kyle Buck led off with a triple, then scored on a sacrifice fly from Brandon Goins. Ebert scored again in the fifth on an RBI single from Billy Johnstone.

"Kyle Buck tripled, Ebert tripled. We just got some timely hitting," Bezeredi said. "If we continue to do that we are going to be fine throughout the season. We did the little things, putting some bunts down and moving some runners. We've just got to continue to get better."

Saraland scored off an error in the bottom of the sixth and in the seventh on an RBI single from Christian Snow.

BCHS plays Smith's Station on Friday in a tournament at Troy University.
