Baldwin County approves Revolutionary Patriots monument for Bicentennial Park

Posted

Baldwin County commissioners have approved a proposal to install a Revolutionary Patriots monument at Bicentennial Park, marking a step toward local observances of the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary.

The request, submitted by the Alabama Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, calls for a monument recognizing the sacrifices and lasting legacy of those who supported the fight for American independence, a news release said. Commissioners endorsed the plan as part of broader efforts to commemorate America 250, a nationwide initiative leading up to 2026.

The monument will be placed within Bicentennial Park, a site dedicated to preserving and showcasing the history and heritage of Baldwin County and the United States. Officials said the addition is intended to create a space for reflection while also serving as an educational resource for visitors and future generations.

Plans for the monument include interpretive features designed to highlight the stories and contributions of Revolutionary Patriots, offering historical context and insight into the nation’s founding era. Organizers say the exhibit will help connect residents and visitors to the people and events that shaped the country’s early history.

Per the release, funding for the project will come entirely from private donations and fundraising efforts, with no cost to Baldwin County taxpayers. The Daughters of the American Revolution has pledged to work closely with county staff to ensure the design and installation meet all local guidelines and park regulations.
