The Baldwin County Commission, working with the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT), has announced the installation of a new traffic signal at the intersection of State Route 104 and Saint Michael Way in Fairhope.
The new signal is part of an ongoing effort to improve roadway safety and manage growing traffic demands near St. Michael Catholic School as congestion during morning arrivals and afternoon dismissals has created challenges in the area. ALDOT installed the signal last week.
Andrea Williamson, principal of St. Michael Catholic High School, previously expressed appreciation for the project in a GCM article, highlighting its importance for students, families and visitors traveling to campus.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Baldwin County Commission and the Alabama Department of Transportation for prioritizing the safety of our students and families,” Williamson said at the time. “This traffic signal is a meaningful investment in our community and truly an answer to prayers. It will make a lasting difference for the students, families and visitors who travel to our campus each day.”
Temporary timber poles have been installed to allow the signal to become fully operational before the start of the school year. Permanent galvanized steel poles will be installed later once fabrication is complete.
Baldwin County contributed funding for upgraded galvanized steel signal poles that will provide greater durability and improved storm resilience, further supporting long-term safety improvements in the area.
