Baldwin Bone & Joint's Many More Miles Campaign returns as Week of Giving in 2026

Posted

Gently used running shoes and everyday footwear sitting in closets across Baldwin County will get a second life next spring through the Many More Miles campaign, a long-running community outreach effort that provides shoes to people in need across the Gulf Coast and beyond.

Baldwin Bone & Joint, P.C., in partnership with City Hope Church and participating Baldwin County schools, will host the 22nd edition of the campaign in 2026. Organizers are shifting the effort into a concentrated Week of Giving, March 9-13, designed to accelerate the collection and distribution of donated shoes to foster families, homeless communities and local schools.

The campaign encourages local school-age children, runners and exercise enthusiasts to donate gently used shoes of all kinds. Those donations are redistributed to individuals and families who often lack reliable footwear, a basic need tied to health, employment and school attendance.

As part of the initiative, Baldwin Bone & Joint will continue its annual school competition, awarding cash prizes to the top three Baldwin County schools that collect the most shoes. First place will receive $500, second place $300 and third place $200. Organizers say the competition helps motivate students while supporting school programs.

Donation drop-off locations will include Baldwin Bone & Joint in Daphne, participating Baldwin County Board of Education schools and several Mobile-area sites: the University of South Alabama Student Recreation Center, White-Spunner Realty and McCoy Outdoor Company.

Collected shoes will be distributed to a wide network of nonprofit organizations and outreach programs, including Empowering People, McKemie Place, Home of Grace, Waterfront Rescue Mission, Salvation Army, The Shoulder Rehabilitation Centers, Lifeline Ministries, Fostering Together Gulf Coast, Baldwin Family Village, Dumas Wesley, CityHope Homeless Ministry, Mobile’s homeless community and Baldwin County schools’ clothing closets.

Additional recipients include Dream Center serving local adopted communities, Baptist Church of the Covenant clothing closet, Foster and Adoptive Association of Baldwin County, Big Fish Ministries, Dream Center - Honduras and Souls for Soles.

Organizers note that concentrating the campaign into a single week allows donations to reach recipients more quickly while maintaining the program’s broad community impact. Over its two-decade history, Many More Miles has grown into one of the region’s most recognizable shoe donation efforts, combining healthcare leadership, faith-based outreach and school involvement.
