Baldwin athletes will be featured in All-Star Sports Week games

FOLEY, Alabama - Several athletes from Baldwin County will represent their schools in next week’s All-Star Sports week event in Montgomery.

All-Star Sports Week, which runs July 15-18, includes in-state all-star games in baseball, softball, volleyball and boys’ and girls’ basketball and soccer, and will also feature the Summer Conference with clinics and professional development sessions for coaches, principals, athletic directors, cheerleader coaches and officials.

FOOTBALL ALL-STARS HIT THE CRAMTON BOWL JULY 18: Spanish Fort’s Sammy Tolbert, Gulf Shores’ Daniel Laborde, Robertsdale’s Alphonso Stewart and Fairhope’s Dre Ervin will represent the South in the North-South All-Star football game July 18 at the Cramton Bowl.

Kevin Rose of Bob Jones will serve as head coach for the North squad and Smitty Grider of Beauregard will coach the South. Gulf Shores head coach Ben Blackmon and St. Paul’s coach Steve Mask were selected to be assistants for the South team. The North won last year’s game 34-12, but the South holds a 29-23-2 edge in the North-South series which began in 1948.

BASEBALL NORTH-SOUTH STARS SQUARE OFF JULY 15 AT RIVERWALK: Spanish Fort's Rob Perteet, Brian Lane and Jesse McCord and Robertsdale's Cody Reaves will play for the South in the annual game, scheduled to take place July 15 at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery. Spanish Fort head coach Brent Boyd was also selected as a coach for the South team.

SOCCER STARS MEET JULY 16 AT EMORY FOLMAR COMPLEX: Fairhope’s Blayne Newsome, Spanish Fort’s Haley Hrabovsky and Daphne keeper Cassie Schmitt will represent the county on the girls South squad, while Daphne’s Austin Ahern and Fairhope’s Daniel Meister will represent the county for the boys.

The All-Star soccer matches will be played at the Emory Folmar Soccer Complex July 16.

The North All-Star girls will be coached by Brigid Littleton of Vestavia Hills and Brad Carwile of East Limestone. George Cavender, retired Butler coach, will serve as administrative coach.

Coaching the South All-Star girls are Kacey Ivey of Alabama Christian and Jon Sauers of Faith Academy. Ken Wright of Alabama Christian will serve as administrative coach.

Coaching the South boys are Ruben Risco of McGill-Toolen Catholic and Bo Morrisey of Auburn. Wright will also serve as administrative coach.

The North boys’ coaching staff will be Joe Webb of Mountain Brook and Sean McBride of Homewood. Cavender is the administrative coach.

VOLLEYBALL STARS SET FOR JULY 18 MATCH AT FAULKNER UNIVERSITY: Bayside Academy junior volleyball players Sydney Chandler and Morgan Dulaney were named to the South All-Star team for the 17th annual Alabama All-Star Sports Week competition in Montgomery July 15-20.

Chandler, a 5-foot-5 setter and Dulaney, a 5-foot-9 outside hitter, have been a part of Bayside Academy's remarkable run of eleven consecutive volleyball state championships.

The two teams will square off July 18 at 4 p.m. at Faulkner University. Coaching the South All-Stars will be Manuel Guice of Alabama Christian and Kellye Jordan Bowen of St. James. Amy Rachel of Eclectic Middle School is the South administrative coach.

North coaches are Melissa Hammond of Lexington and Robyn Hutto of Lawrence County. Sue Marshall of Randolph School will serve as the administrative coach.
