DAPHNE, Alabama — Dixie Youth Baseball action for 2013 All-Stars got going this weekend in OZONE (11-12) and AA (Machine pitch 7-8) Divisions. The road to a District title and beyond and possibly to state and a berth in the DYB World Series starts at the sub-district level. Local teams from Mobile and Baldwin counties make up the District 7 league. Sub-district tourneys kicked off the in Daphne, Spanish Fort and Saraland Friday and completed round two Saturday.

District 7 commissioner Barbara Stassen said this is what the players practice for with hopes of going as deep in the playoffs as possible. But also provides an opportunity to grow and mature in both skills, attitudes and work ethic.

“It is an exciting time of year for the all-stars from District 7,” Stassen said. “The boys and coaches have been working hard to become the best they can be. The games are always exciting and win or lose on the scoreboard, the kids are all champions. They are learning about the importance of being a team player and what it takes to be successful working together. Lessons learned on the playing field carry through to everyday life for the rest of their lives.”

Sub-district results will establish seeding for the District 7 tournament in Fairhope which will host both OZONE and AA tournaments at Volanta Park beginning this weekend.

AAA (9-10) All Stars will begin sub-district play this weekend in Spanish Fort. Bay Minette will host the AAA District 7 tournament.
