In July 2023, a beloved Gulf Shores restaurant suffered a fire that has left the beachfront eatery closed for repairs. Now, about five months later, the restaurant has announced that it has received all necessary permits and plans to reopen sometime this spring.
Charles Whitney Spellman, operations manager for Bahama Bobs, said the restaurant is still in the beginning stages of construction and is working with electrical and structural engineers to restore the building and reopen.
"Right now, we are just getting started and have to iron out a few small details that are normal when working with an older building and trying to resolve some issues so we can continue working," Spellman said. "Please pray for warmer and better weather."
According to an August 2023 article from WKRG, approximately 30% to 35% of the building suffered damage from the fire, which started in a dumpster outside the restaurant.
Spellman said there should be more details coming in the next week weeks regarding a more specific timeline of the restaurant's reopening.
