Author and counselor Susan McConnell will sign copies of her latest book, Parenting in Tough Times, July 14, from 1 to 3 p.m., at Crossroads Bookstore at 1401 Hillcrest Road (corner of Grelot and Hillcrest) in Mobile.

Parenting in Tough Times is written to help parents avoid specific situations, encourage parents through the difficult times and know how to recognize symptoms of problems.

Topics covered in this book are sexual abuse, pornography and predators, eating disorders, drug and alcohol abuse, learning disabilities and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, special families, anxiety and depression, teens and sex, defiant children and living through the loss of a child.

McConnell grew up and now resides in Mobile. She holds a master’s degree in clinical psychology and works in private practice.

She and her husband, Roger, have raised two children.

Her first book, Raising Great Kids in a Tough World, was published by World Publishing, a Thomas Nelson Co., Nashville.
