John Gibson is the owner of JASDIP and he lives is Atlanta, Ga. He is lead counsel for AT&T and has traveled the world with the company. But, he comes to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach every single weekend (a five hour drive) and supports our local economy in so many ways. It's people like him who are dedicated to our area and who keep people excited to live here. We need to keep people such as him coming down and supporting us.
The JASDIP is a 2007, 47 foot (52'LOA) Nordhavn trawler yacht designed and produced by Pacific Asian Enterprises, Inc of Dana Point California. This is the boat that served as the "Marshall boat" for the 24th annual Sail Boat Racing, and I was on board taking the official photos.
JASDIP was built for its present owner John B. Gibson and is presently moored at Homeport Marina in Gulf Shores, Ala. Nordhavn yachts are built in Xiamen, China and shipped to their owners throughout the world. They are renowned for their structural strength and ability to cross oceans.
JASDIP's displacement is 43 tons with a diesel fuel capacity of 1,480 gallons, which provides a comfortable cruising range of approximately 3,000 miles at seven knots. One 40 foot Nordhavn yacht made history as the smallest production power yacht to circumnavigate the world. It covered more than 24,000 miles over some 170 days at sea, starting and ending its circumnavigation at Dana Point, Ca.
JASDIP has a raised forward pilothouse which is separate from the main salon and galley and two full size en suite staterooms downstairs. The engine room has full headroom with a Lugger turbo main engine with a "wing" get home engine with separate prop shaft and propeller. The boat boasts beautifully teak joinery throughout and is accented with granite and marble counter tops. The galley is equipped with full size Viking appliances as well as a Sub Zero refrigerator with three freezers for those long voyages.
