Art Center announces Members’ Juried Show award winners

The Eastern Shore Art Center is pleased to announce the 2013 Members’ Juried Show, which opened during First Friday Artwalk on March 1. This year’s judges were Charlie Smoke, assistant director of the Mobile Arts Council and Mark Biletnikoff, master's degree candidate from the Savannah College of Art and Design.

The exhibition includes 83 works, which features a variety of mediums that reflect the incredible talent of the Association’s membership and provides the Art Center an opportanunity to showcase the artists’ work to the public. More than $1,300 in prizes was awarded at the opening reception.

The judges’ comments reflect the outstanding quality of this year’s entries; the following artists were awarded more than $1,300:

The Debbie Kingrea Best of Show: Martha Andrews, “Himba Girl,” Sculpture

“...Beautifully modeled and proportioned, exudes a serene confidence and is elegantly presented.”

First Place: Aline Nicholson, “Gondola Ride,” Watercolor

“...Exquisite use of the medium, lovely use of light and skillful creation of textures.”

Second Place: Karen Roloson, “Joie de Vivre,” Oil

“...Captures the scene vividly, strong composition, fresh subject and skillful use of the medium.”

Third Place: Heather Mitchell, “Dreamer”

“...Extraordinary technique, captures extremely fine detail with subtle coloring.”

Awards of Merit: James Hood, “1913 Remington Redux” and Jim Laugelli, “Homeward Bound”

The exhibition will be on display throughout the Outdoor Art Show and will close on April 23. Also on display are “The Afterlife Series”, works by Bill White and

“Home Again,” work by Ron Thomson.
