FOLEY, Ala. — A traditional Salvation Army program that brings a little Christmas magic to needy children in the South Baldwin area kicks off on Nov. 10.
Registration for the “Angel Tree” program will be held Nov. 10-21, Monday through Friday only, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Since the Salvation Army Thrift Store at 2015 N. McKenzie St. was damaged by fire in the spring, registration for this year’s Angel Tree will be held at Gulf Publishing, located at 300 N. Alston St. in Foley.
“Opening that store has been my number one priority since I arrived here,” said Maj. Ted Morris, area commander for the Salvation Army in Baldwin and Mobile counties.
Morris said he has been in his position for approximately four months. Since all Salvation Army properties in the Southeast are owned by the Salvation Army of Georgia Corp., Morris said all that is needed to begin work on the Thrift Store are final signatures at the corporate headquarters.
“As soon as we get the go-ahead you’ll see some progress and construction going on,” Morris said of the Thrift Store.
On April 1 of this year, a couch behind the Thrift Store building caught fire and spread to the back of the building. The store has been closed ever since.
For this Christmas season, however, Gulf Publishing will be the registration site for “Angel Tree.”
Gulf Publishing is located one block west of Violet Avenue off North McKenzie Street (Ala. Highway 59) and two blocks north of Alston Street off U.S. Highway 98.
Registration requirements, which include originals only, are as follows:
Photo ID.

TANF (Temporary Aid to Needy Families).
