DAPHNE, Ala. — Officials are seeking a Daphne man indicted on a sexual abuse charge, a Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said Wednesday.
BCSO officials Wednesday morning arrived at the Lake Forest home of Thomas Pinion, 56. He was indicted on first-degree sexual abuse — sexual contact with a child by force — involving a 5-year-old-relative, Daphne police Cpl. Jason Vannoy said.
BCSO officials found a vacant house when they attempted to serve the indictment. A relative of Pinion told the BCSO that he is working at a cabinet shop in South Carolina, Maj. Anthony Lowery said. But Lowery said officials believe there is no such business.
Vannoy said there’s no evidence of Pinion’s residing or working in South Carolina.
Pinion’s wife, Cathy, is the executive director of the Child Advocacy Center in Bay Minette, however the 5-year-old involved in Pinion’s crime has no connection to the organization, Vannoy said.
Deputies who contacted Pinion’s attorney, Jim Vollmer, reported that he said Pinion would try to surrender to authorities on Thursday. BCSO officials Friday didn’t return calls by press time to confirm he had. Pinion has been entered into the National Criminal Information Center. Any police officer in all 50 states who stops him for a traffic violation or other offense would learn of the indictment when they scan his driver’s license.
The BCSO will extradite Pinion from anywhere in the nation, Lowery said.
